Joan Manuel del Pozo Àlvarez

A doctor in Philosophy of the University of Barcelona (UB), Joan Manuel del Pozo Àlvarez is a professor emeritus and a syndic of the University of Girona (UdG). He was a co-founder and director of the Observatory of Ethics Applied to Social, Psychoeducational and Social and Health-Care Action. Likewise, he has been a member of the Spanish Congress and of the Catalan Parliament, a deputy mayor of the City Council of Girona, and the Minister of Education and Universities of the Government of Catalonia during the last term of President Pasqual Maragall. He has also been the government councillor of the Catalan Media Corporation
(CCMA).

He is the author of EDUCACIONARI. Una invitació a pensar i sentir l’educació a través de seixanta conceptes and has translated into Catalan three of Cicero’s philosophical treatises: De natura deorum, De re publica and Paradoxa stoicorum
for the Bernat Metge Foundation. He is the author of the direct translation from the original Latin of Thomas More’s classic work of political thought, Utopia, and he wrote the essay on urban ethics Ciutats de valors, ciutats valuoses, as well co-authoring with Ulises Cortés a compilation of dialogues held in the cycle “Butaca Casademont”, entitled La intel·ligència (artificial) a la butaca.

Joan Manuel del Pozo Àlvarez is very active as a speaker in our country and in several others on topics involving education, philosophy, ethics and politics.
