Summer holidays break the rhythm of instruction for children and adolescents and in many cases, this can represent a setback in students’ learning.

In a context such as ours, where a long summer holiday period overlaps with education indicators that, in general, show considerable scope for improvement, summer learning programs seem the ideal initiative to take centre stage in advancing learning opportunities. This review of the evidence examines to what extent summer learning programs can address this issue.
