“Educational support. Accompanying to accelerate opportunities” is an impact assessment programme in three main areas of learning: reading comprehension (LECXIT project), mathematical skills (MATH TUTORING project) and social- emotional skills (PENTABILITIES project). The programme has been implemented in the academic year 2022-23, reaching more than 1,500 students in vulnerable situations.
Living in vulnerable conditions severely compromises students’ academic progress. Children and young people from low-income families tend to have lower academic results and are more likely to drop out of school early.
Educational success is a protective factor against social exclusion in disadvantaged children and teenagers. The three Educational Support projects are evidence-based, high-impact interventions that reinforce the work of teachers.
The Educational Support proposal has been involved more than 150 educational centres from all over Catalonia, providing models that are easy to apply and have proven impact. Educational Support can multiply the opportunities for educational success, reduce inequality and feed into public policy by building effective and replicable models.
The Educational Support programme has a research and evaluation process that will validate the results obtained and contribute to promoting public policies that focus on scientifically proven results.
The three projects that make up Educational Support are:
- LECXIT. An individualised after-school mentoring project to improve reading comprehension.
- MATH TUTORING. An after-school tutoring project for mathematical enrichment in small groups of 3 or 4 children per tutor.
- PENTABILITIES. A project to promote the social-emotional skills of ESO (compulsory secondary education) students in the classroom.
