We build spaces of media trust

Misinformation (or fake news) has always surrounded us. However, widespread access to technology and the rapid digitization of education have made this complex phenomenon even more relevant and urgent.

Now, more than ever, we understand that our children, teenagers, and young adults are highly exposed to large volumes of information that might be of low quality or even malicious. This exposure leads to risks of ideological manipulation, demotivation for learning, democratic disaffection, polarization, and even problems related to physical and/or mental health. Moreover, disinformation and hate speech have a significantly greater impact on the most vulnerable communities, who possess fewer tools and strategies to shield themselves from the damaging influence of such information.

For this reason, educational institutions and socio-educational organizations play a crucial role in the fight against disinformation. They bear the responsibility of preparing future generations to confront this challenge effectively. In classrooms and other informal educational settings, we can foster the skill of detecting misinformation (fact-checking) among students. This empowers them to become proactive agents in preventing the spread of false news. Simultaneously, we aim to cultivate spaces of media trust in digital realms.

At the "I don't fall for it" event, we aim to address this challenge, raising awareness and initiating action. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with internationally recognized professionals, delve into the latest educational research, discover advanced models of informational and media literacy (AMI), and explore ongoing educational practices involving children and young adults in our region.
